Sony-Backed Startale Launches Institutional Stablecoin for Web3 Ecosystem
Startale Group, Sony's blockchain collaborator, has introduced USDSC—an institutional-grade stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar—for payments and settlements within its Soneium network. The stablecoin leverages M0's universal platform and launches alongside STAR Points, a rewards system designed to boost on-chain activity through Startale's consumer-facing app.
Soneium represents Sony's strategic push into Web3 via an ethereum Layer-2 solution, bridging its entertainment and electronics divisions. The network prioritizes mainstream adoption through familiar user interfaces, with CEO Sota Watanabe positioning USDSC as infrastructure for 'everyday transactions' in decentralized finance.
The development precedes Startale and SBI Holdings' planned digital asset exchange for tokenized securities, targeting a projected $18.9 trillion tokenization market by 2033. Sony's blockchain ambitions now span stablecoins, Layer-2 infrastructure, and institutional trading platforms.
